What you need to know about the International Freight Forwarding Specialist Apprenticeship Standard

Who is this standard for?

This standard has been developed for those in the transport and logistics sector or those who are wanting to join. Learners will be introduced to, and taught the processing of all relevant trade documentation, customer controls and procedures that are vital to the UK economy. Apprentices will gain the CORE knowledge and skills and then choose one of the following three PATHWAYS to reflect the focus of their employer’s operations:

  • Air Freight
  • Ocean Freight
  • Road Freight 

On this apprenticeship, learners will develop knowledge, skills and behaviours in areas such as: 

  • International freight movement 
  • customs procedures 
  • business finance and freight costings 
  • customer service

Programme structure

This is a level 3 apprenticeship standard that has a duration of 18 months.

Assessment Plan

Apprentices will be assessed against ST0539/AP01 .

  • multiple choice test
  • observed role simulation
  • professional discussion
