During this period of Covid-19 disruption, the following temporary discretion has been agreed, for this standard, until further notice:
An alternative assessment method to the practical observation is permitted where an apprentice cannot undertake the observation due to Covid-19 restrictions.
The alternative method for the observation will comprise of the EPAO assessing previous evidence completed on-programme by the apprentice, that has been submitted by the training provider. This will be followed by a question and answer session of up to 40 minutes with the apprentice and an independent assessor.
The alternative method for the culinary challenge will comprise of the EPAO assessing the mock assessment evidence completed on-programme by the apprentice and training provider, and validated with an expert witness statement by someone who has tasted the prepared food. This will be followed by a question and answer session of up to 20 minutes with the apprentice and an independent assessor.
